5 Activities for a Productive Morning Routine

September 30, 2020

This post is all about 5 activities for a productive morning routine.

An increased amount of time staying at home has got me feeling blah, blah, and blah. On top of the blah, my productivity and motivation has decreased with the lack of routine (pre-quar I was waking up every morning at 4:30 am to hit the gym and then head to the office for my full-time job, before ending my day doing work for a certification course I was taking). I then found myself waking up at 7:50- just before my alarm- to drag myself over to my desk and try to get through the next 8 hours of work…and I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t get myself together. But once I started getting myself into a morning routine again, my whole day started getting better! My mind and body feel healthier and happier after implementing these 5 activities into my morning.

1. Drink a Glass of Water With Fresh Lemon

Having a glass of water in the morning jumpstarts your brain (did you know your brain is the first part of the body to become dehydrated?). Adding lemon to your water helps to flush out toxins, as it’s a natural liver-aid. Additionally, lemons have a great amount of Vitamin C, potassium, and magnesium, which helps boost the immune system. Drinking this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach allows your body to absorb these vitamins easier. Start with a small squeeze of lemon first because the acids in the lemon can make you feel nauseous in the beginning.

2. Move Your Body

Look, i’m not saying throw yourself into an extremely exhausting working first thing in the morning, but wake up and move. Whether that’s a 30-minute yoga video or my personal favorite, a 30-minute walk in the fresh morning air, get the blood flow going. Make this time something that you’ll look forward to and enjoy waking up to, so you don’t have to press snooze 6 times (guilty). I love going on a walk and listening to my favorite podcast or some music.

3. Focus on Skincare

Okay we should be doing this anyway for anti-aging benefits, but personally, I’ve been slack on my skincare routine when it’s just me, myself, and I at home. Remember, wrinkles don’t care who you see on a daily basis or not! Get your skincare routine back-on-track and you’ll feel put back together in no time.

4. Have a Cup of Coffee and do Something You Enjoy

While I enjoy my job, it can be very stressful. So in the mornings I like to take time for myself and do something I enjoy doing. For me this means my favorite coffee and watching some YouTube videos (check out the So Delicious Coconut Milk Vanilla creamer, OMG SO GOOD). I love watching health, fitness, and lifestyle videos in the morning- check out my fav YouTuber, Whitney Simmons. She’s so motivational and entertaining to watch!

5. Focus on Your Growth

Last on this productive morning routine, take some time to focus on your personal or professional growth. For me, this means reading a book that focuses on how I can improve myself. Currently, I’m reading The Defining Decade, by long-time psychiatrist Dr. Meg Jay (highly recommend so far). Other ideas are working on a certification, learning how to take care of your finances, or growing your side hustle (check out some side hustle ideas here!).
